OUR ROOTS
Welcome to our corner of the virtual world! We are thrilled you stopped by!
In 2016, we started searching for our next home… and hoped it would be our dream home. Our realtor said she had the perfect place for us, a young homeschooling family of 6. We wanted a few acres where we could raise chickens, a garden, and plenty of space for the children to explore. We drove past the property quite a few times, hubby was in love with the property… I wasn’t thrilled with the location, or the house (from the drive-by’s), but I agreed to a tour of the house and property… all the while trying to figure out a way to let my husband down (because I KNEW he loved the property and I did NOT).
The moment I walked in the front door though, I was in love. For years I had very specific things I wanted in my home, and this house had it. Then we walked out into the pasture of the fields… and it was almost breathtaking! Who knew, a little corner of Franklin County, PA could have such an awesome view, and be so peaceful! This property completely fit the bill for what we were looking for!
Within our first year of moving in, we were able to raise chickens, a pig (briefly), and start expanding our dreams! Currently our little farmette is home to 12 sheep, 1 calf, 2 ducks, and a ridiculous amount of chickens! We hope to add pigs in the future!
We continue to homeschool our children- a blessing we do not take lightly. We are part of a homeschool community that branches into other neighboring counties, and has given us the added benefit of true friends, and learning opportunities.
Our family consists of 6 humans, and our sweet dog, Arrow.
My husband Jeremy is a software developer by day, and crazy farmer by night. I am a homemaker/homeschooling mom by day, and baker by night… and part time farm hand! All four kiddos help around the farm(ette) as needed… and dabble in things like raising their own chickens, building their own fort, making dinner, reading books, getting together with friends… and all the other fun things kids get to do!
Our goal is to be good stewards of the land God has blessed us with. We raise our animals on pasture, rotating them frequently to allow the ground time to heal and rejuvenate, and feed our chickens and ducks a local non-gmo (tested) feed (our sheep and cattle are grass-fed only).
If you’d like a little tour of our farmette, give us a hollar! We look forward to meeting you!
